My Network TV: "edgier than Fox"?

Aaron Barnhart writes in the Kansas City Star that while a local station manager in Kansas thinks that Fox has "a chip on their shoulder," he knows My Network TV didn't enter the game to play around:

"I think Fox has a chip on their shoulder, and they’re going to work very hard to beat CW,” said KCTV-KSMO general manager Kirk Black on Friday.

My Network TV has been around less than a month. It was cobbled together in the weeks after the surprise announcement that the WB and UPN networks were closing their doors and that the CW was open for business. One of the top executives at Fox, Roger Ailes, said at the time, “My Network TV is a viable alternative brought to you by proven winners who know quality programming.”

The plans beyond September seem sketchy for now, but Black thinks that will change. “I think it will be edgier than Fox is,” he said.

My Network TV executives also told Black they’re aiming for a 52-week season with no repeats, which would be the first time a national network pulled off that feat since the live-television era of the 1950s.

Fox executives have stressed that the shows will be inexpensively done, that they will aim at viewers ages 18 to 49, and that the new network will make money out of the gate. That’s a message for Wall Street, not viewers.
