Everybody knows New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg can't think or write. But now he's even stopped pretending to! Take this line from a breathtakingly vapid "Whither the evening news in the age of Katie" piece:
...in contrast to the so-called "Big Three" — Mr. Brokaw, Mr. Jennings and Dan Rather of CBS, who began their anchor careers in earnest in the early 1980's with little other competition — Ms. Couric will have to vie not only with the other broadcast networks but also with talk radio and the Fox News cable channel, whose prime-time hosts, at least, speak from a decidedly conservative point of view.
"Decidedly conservative," eh? So that's the latest Times-speak for "maddeningly unbiased" these days.
