FTV Live (subscription) has a great catch...CNN prez Jon Klein's prize showpony of alleged serious journalism, Anderson Cooper, continuing to establish his grown-up, serious reporter bona fides by....judging an episode of Iron Chef??!?!
Anderson Cooper - Iron Chef Judge?
While Brian Williams, Charlie Charles Gibson and other anchors were reporting from the Mideast conflict if you flipped around the dial you might have been taken aback when you saw CNN's Anderson Cooper judging the Iron Chef competition on the Food Network on Sunday Night.
We're sure that it was a taped piece and likely in the can for a while since Cooper himself already departed for the region by Sunday night, but it just goes to show you what CNN is willing to do to try and get Cooper noticed.
If they want viewers to look at Anderson Cooper is a hard newsman, we don't think having him hang oout on the Food Network is the way to go.
In fact, FTVLive can't think of a news personality other than Ashleigh Banfield in her heyday would have done an appearance as silly as this.
CNN is desperately trying to portray him as some face of journalism. Having him judge some sushi competition is no way to do that.
CNN's Soledad O'Brien, CBS "Early Show" co-host Harry Smith and NBC's Stone Phillips have also been judges... must make for cute conversation at cocktail parties, because it sure doesn't make for ratings in the real world.
