In the Albany Times-Union, a outstanding piece on the upcoming media coverage of the 1-year Katrina marker and the 5-year 9/11 anniversary. By columnist Mark McGuire, it's really an exceptional and moving piece.

...Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina are two seminal moments in American history that played out live on national television. We all saw them, lived through them, were touched by them, even if we didn't know anyone directly affected. And in the coming weeks, television and the rest of the media will be revisiting those horrid events.

It is, as Abraham Lincoln observed during another remembrance of another calamitous day, "altogether fitting and proper that we should do this." These events aren't frozen in time: They continue to shape America and the world....

....How often will we be able to watch the towers fall? How many times can we see New Orleans' residents stranded on rooftops?

"I have to tell our story to our viewers," Fox News Channel Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in an interview last month. "But the tonnage is ... a sensitive issue."

Roundup of some of the scheduled specials at the bottom of the piece...
