Bob Laurence should apologize over kidnap comments? More like Bob Laurence should retire

Look at this item over at TVNewser about San Diego Union Tribune TV critic Bob Laurence's revolting comments about coverage of the Steve Centanni/Olaf Wiig kidnapping (Laurence wrote, in part, that the kidnapping wasn't getting more coverage because "there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media.") There's a great response by a TVN reader:

"I was so stunned I had to read this twice. There's two journalist's lives at risk and Laurence is spending time absurdly whining that other news organizations don't agree with Fox's fair & balanced mantra so there's a lack of good will? If he had any knowledge of the story, he'd realize it's a highly sensitive situation which calls for some professional courtesy from other news organizations -- all of which have clearly complied and not reported this wall to wall.

Regardless of whether Bob is a critic, the fact that he's writing things like this about a network in a time of crisis really speaks volumes about his bias toward Fox... Not to mention his credibility as a journalist.

This is no time for partisan hackery Bob -- Fox deserves an apology."

I agree that FNC deserves an apology. But even more so, I think Laurence has proved that he should just hang it up. To demonstrate a desire to score personal and political points from the most serious and personal of situations--well, at that point, I think that just means you're done. Bob Laurence, unless he sincerely grovels, which ain't gonna happen, is just done. For the rest of his life, he's always going to be that guy who wanted to capitalize on a kidnapping. So why not retire? Nice going, Bob, you [expletive adjective expletive noun deleted.]
