The first episode of the Devil May Cry anime just aired in Japan on the 14th of June, and already fansubs are circulating on the internet. I took a look at it myself; the art, like the manga, is pretty nice, and thus far it doesn't attempt to be any more ambitious thematically than the game. As you might expect, there are plenty of sharply-choreographed monster melodrama fight scenes. Highlight? A battle in silhouette behind the scrim of an opera house. Check out more screenshots here. Summary judgment? Not bad at all, but you can watch a little here for yourself. Who loves ya, baby?
Still, the best anime spawned by a game has gotta be Gungrave. The game itself is pretty piss poor-- making it all the more remarkable that the 26-episode series is literally one of the most awesome things I've ever seen, with true visceral depth and some very affecting character dynamics. You'd never know it was made from a video game, and if you're into that kinda thing, I can't recommend it enough.
