If You Don't Love Me, I'll Kill Myself

This week's Aberrant Gamer is about a weird trend I've been noticing lately in video games-- girls that are pretty much doomed if you don't love 'em. I mean, I've talked enough about the H-game protagonist as savior-hero, a concept that is actually pretty pivotal in archetypal H-game conventions. But in those examples, it's usually the sex act itself that saves the girl-- through pushing her limits, or teaching her about letting go, or something farfetched like that.

In the example I provided for this particular column, a fairly new game called Yume Miru Kusuri, though, the entire plot thread revolves around saving the girl, and in so doing, saving yourself from an ordinary, cowardly and uninvolved life. It also encourages monogamy to achieve the best endings, which is not groundbreaking but at the very least, slightly risky, and therefore refreshing.

And you can't screw your little sister in this one, even though she gives you fanservice. Tease.
