Original Gangsta

My most recent Escapist piece, "Growing Up Gamer," gazed fondly back at my eighties-baby gamer childhood as the kid of a tech writer. My Dad in particular was really into Centipede, which was made the year I was born, so it was really awesome for me to get to interview Dona Bailey, the designer of Centipede, for Gamasutra recently. She's quite an impressive woman -- the only female designer at Atari back then, and I was pretty surprised to hear how difficult it was to be female in the industry only about twenty-five years ago. She's funny and humble; I interviewed her in conjunction with the upcoming Women in Games conference in Austin, and she wasn't really sure why she's such a big deal. Anyway, it was a fun interview -- take a read if you've got a little time.
