Roland Martin really is a fool, and has proven it in the past. But he gets away with saying stupid things--indeed, he stays on CNN's payroll, because of the double standard.
Consider Martin's latest bit of foolishness, from his own column on CNN.com:
Obama's critics keep blasting him for Chicago-style politics. So, fine. Channel your inner Al Capone and go gangsta against your foes. Let 'em know that if they aren't with you, they are against you, and will pay the price.
Now what does that mean, exactly? Nobody knows for sure.
But we do know that "Chicago-style politics" have played disastrously for Obama in the last year, as The Financial Times and The Huffington Post have asserted in buzz-heavy pieces in recent days. And Al Capone--who wants him in the White House, or anywhere near? And "gangsta"? C'mon, Roland, gangstas belong in jail--or maybe on BET.
But as an aside, imagine if Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck had said that Republicans ought to unleash their "inner redneck," or "go Dukes of Hazzard" on Obama. If Limbaugh or Beck had said that, not only would they have been rightly regarded as dopes, but the PC police would have said that they were using coded racist language against Obama. And there would have been a firestorm of bullhorns and boycotts.
But instead, Martin continues serenely onward, making a fool of himself, antagonizes readers and viewers--but not the MSM--and still getting paid. This is CNN.
