Chris Matthews Professional Democrat

The Cable Gamer has always liked MSNBC's Chris Matthews--she just thinks that he should have made an honest man out of himself by running for the Senate from Pennsylvania as a Democrat this year.

But Chris chose not to run, but he continues to work for the Democratic National Committee, even from his network perch. As we saw on tonight's "Hardball," he defends the Democratic Party at all times--even against other Democrats, such as former Vermont governor Howard Dean. Dean is en fuego on the healthcare bill, demanding a public option, and so he and Matthews got into pretty good tonight on the show: Dean defending the left-liberal position, Matthews defending the Democratic partisan point of view. (Good thing Keith Olbermann is on a different show, he would have sided with Dean.)

So it's not liberalism, or leftism, that Matthews defends, merely the interest of a Democratic majority in Congress--Matthews, we must remember, worked as an aide to former President Jimmy Carter and also to the late Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neill. So Matthews' Democrat roots run deep. Matthews has a right to his opinion, of course, but we have a right to call him on it. Indeed, we have a right to say that Chris seems pretty well ensconced as a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee.

So the old joke--that MSNBC is really MSDNC--fits all the better now.
