The Cable Gamer first read that new MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell describes himself as a "European socialist" in Politico, but the source was an interview in 2005. That is to say, not so long ago. As he said five years ago, "I’m a European socialist, believe me – I’m far to the left."
TCG imagines that O'Donnell and MSNBC will seek to hedge and qualify those words, but O'Donnell said the "S" word, "socialist," when he was in his late 40s. So it's extremely unlikely that he thinks any different now.
So there you have it: a self-declared socialist anchoring a primetime show on MSNBC. Is this what Comcast believes?
