Olbermann had better watch his back. His "friends" at MSNBC are coming for him.

Jason Raznick, at Benzinga, pulls together some interesting threads, and draws a conclusion that could be ominous for Keith Olbermann's tenure at MSNBC.   As Raznick notes, Olbermann's ratings are down.  Why?  In TCG's opinion, Olbermann is basically an unlikeable person, who got some momentum as a leading George W. Bush-basher, which gained him favor among the many Americans who grew to dislike our 43rd President.  But now that Barack Obama is in charge, who does Olbermann have to bash?   Obama is the obvious target, and Olbermann has done his share of Obama-bashing, but his audience won't sit still for that.

The producers and suits at MSNBC might be able to figure out how to finesse this problem, but of course, Olbermann doesn't listen to them, as Raznick notes, and as The Cable Gamer discussed and even depicted, here in April.

But of course, what goes around comes around, and so as Olbermann piles up enemies, across the country and inside NBC HQ, there's talk of Dylan "Lou Dobbs" Ratigan as a replacement.   Ratigan is no ratings winner, but he at least might follow orders.  After all, he opportunistically shifted from Wall Street picker for CNBC to populist rabble rouser at MSNBC.  So Dylan will do what he's told.  To the suits at MSNBC/NBC, and soon, Comcast, such pliability will be a refreshing change.

Yet we shouldn't worry about Keith.  After he leaves MSNBC, he can always get a job at Air America.  Oh wait, not there, because it no longer exists.  Or maybe Daily Kos.  Oh wait, not there, because he quit in a snit.   I guess that leaves The Huffington Post, where he join in with the limousine leftists and unemployed screenwriters who bulk up Huffpo.
