C'mon Rachel Maddow admit it! You lied. And let's see some leadership, Steve Burke!

Politifact, a non-profit watchdog group that won a Pulitzer Prize for its scrupulous coverage, says that Rachel Maddow lied about finances in Wisconsin.  She said that the Badger State was running a surplus, and therefore there was no reason for Gov. Scott Walker to cut spending.   Then Politifact said that she was full of it.

'Nuff said, although it's fun to watch Maddow squirming around, trying to defend her lie.  Although surely it would be a good idea for MSNBC/NBCU/Comcast to step in and make her admit that she was wrong.   Surely NBCU's new chief, Steve Burke, fresh on the job and with a new set of eyes, can see the value of maintaining the integrity of his media conglomerate.  After all, as TVNewser repots and Doonesbury mocks the Comastified peacock is trying to pull together cross-platform synergies.  That's a smart idea, but it comes at a cost--there's such a thing as negative synergies, too.

MSNBC may be a leftwing playpen, but surely Burke and his boss, Brian Roberts--to say nothing of Comcast shareholders--don't want to see the body of the whole asset infected and poisoned by the bacteria Maddow dishonestius.

And it was also interesting to see CNN's Howard Kurtz not being able to understand that it's just as important to track the accuracy of media figures as it is to track political figures.
