James O'Keefe: Reporters are stenographers, damage-controllers, and opinionators--but not diggers

James O'Keefe interviewed by Howard Kurtz this morning on CNN.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun's great TV critic, David Zurawik, takes note MSM hypocrisy on the issue of surreptitious video- and audio recording.  As Z observes, the broadcast networks do it all the time, on shows such as "Sixty Minutes" and "Dateline."

And the Sun-man, who was initially critical of O'Keefe's tactics, admits that he is coming around to that kind of journalism.

I am starting to believe that such techniques of hidden cameras and microphones might be one of the only ways to get at the lies some people in the media tell us. I am not yet saying they are ethically acceptable, but rather that they are one of the only techniques that have proven effective with media and political liars.
