The Cable Gamer has come across some interesting and important articles by Star Parker, the African-American conservative activist who is a frequent--but not frequent enough!--guest on cable newsers. Given her background, she always has an interesting and useful perspective on events; always seeking to turn the national conservation toward constructive and unifying themes. For example, she wrote an interesting piece in March on the possible future alliance between black conservatives and Hispanic conservatives.
And in May of last year, she took note of an interview with Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, in which explained that he saw Fox News as a vehicle for all Americans, of all races, to be part of the same American Dream. Here's an excerpt of her column:
According to Ailes, we are now in the most difficult "tipping point – decade – of our history." We have to get back, he says, "to understanding that we are Americans." That the world looks to us to be financially strong and militarily strong. Americans, according to Ailes, are simple – but not simpletons. We love our families, our flag, and don't want our incomes taxed away.
Voters delivered the presidency and the congress to Democrats when Republicans lost public sentiment. But they have misinterpreted their mandate. They thought Americans were looking for a new country. No, we are looking to restore who we are.
"Multiculturalism, diversity – they are good," says Ailes. "But they don't trump the one word that should be taught in schools – unity……People came to this country from disparate countries and backgrounds to become Americans."
Yes, indeed, we are all Americans. Well put, Roger! And well put, Star! America needs to hear more from both of you!
