Now for something completely loathsome: Ed Schultz. And some thoughts about why Ed talks so much, so hard, and so self-destructively.

When even The Huffington Post is shocked, you know it's shocking.   Indeed, it was shocking, what Ed Schultz said, calling Laura Ingraham a "right-wing slut," and then, for good measure, a "talk slut."

As Radio Equalizer's Brian Maloney wrote immediately, this should be bye-bye-time for Schultz.

Well, let's hope so.  It does seem as though the women's groups are getting energized, finally, to slap down the rampant misogyny that's been so prevalent at MSNBC for so long.    Here's the press release from the Women's Media Center, an advocacy group founded by Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem.  If Rush Limbaugh had said such things, of course, the WMC would have demanded that he be fired.  But since it's a liberal,* Schultz, the women's group demands merely a suspension.

* As a footnote, many might have forgotten, but at one time, Schultz was a big conservative.   And then, virtually overnight, he switched sides, becoming an even bigger liberal.  Some say he made the ideological switch for romance, others say that he switched for money, but either way, his shift was sudden, and, frankly, it was never all that convincing.

With apologies to Shakespeare, Schultz dost protest too much.  That is, he makes too much noise about how much he hates the right, how all conservatives are stupid and evil, and so on.  That tells TCG that Schultz is a "self-hater." That is, in his bones he is still a conservative, but to keep the lefty act going, he has to talk a really good game--until the self-administered adrenaline takes over from his more rational brain.   And that means talk and talk and talk, to the point where he gets red in the face--and ultimately to the point where he talks himself out of a job.

After he gets fired, of course, he will feel a sense of relief, because then he can go back to being a conservative.   Ed will miss the love, and/or the money, but at least he will be at peace with himself.   Or more at peace.
