Boston Herald: I just want to celebrate

Props to the editorial staff of the Boston Herald for this piece in today's paper:

We’re often amused at the level of vitriol some folks hurl in the direction of the Fox News Network. Those armchair critics would do well to listen to the words of correspondent Steve Centanni, who along with cameraman Olaf Wiig, was released over the weekend after a terrifying two-week captivity in Gaza.

"I hope that this never scares a single journalist away from coming to Gaza to cover the story because the Palestinian people are very beautiful and kindhearted,” said Centanni, 60. “The world needs to know more about them.”

The words of a cold-hearted conservative doing the automatic bidding of the Bush administration? Yeah, we didn’t think so.

Centanni and Wiig were forced at gunpoint to convert to Islam but resisted any urge to condemn a whole people for the acts of radicals. “I have the highest respect for Islam, and I learned a lot of good things about it, but it was something we felt we had to do because they had the guns, and we didn’t know what the hell was going on,” Centanni said.

The release of two journalists who risked their lives to bring a story to the world? It should be celebrated by all of us.
