So Glenn Beck was on Jay Leno last night, reminding Americans of just how unique a figure he is. As recorded by Mediaite's Joe Coscarelli:
“What party do you align yourself with?” Leno asks. Beck makes a Christmas party joke, before commenting, “I hate both of them really. They both betrayed the country, I think.” I’m a liberatarian, Beck says. “I voted for Joe Lieberman, I voted for George W. Bush — both of which I regretted.”
Continuing, Beck added:
He admits reluctantly that Hillary Clinton would have been his candidate of choice over John McCain but puts it poetically: “That’s like, gee, do I want to hang myself or shoot myself?” Then he plugs the moms and dads in the Tea Party Movement and 9/12 party.
Both parties have "betrayed" America? Hillary Clinton is preferable to John McCain? Beck is entitled to his opinion, as an American. But of course, he also expresses those strong opinions, and others, on Fox News five nights a week.
So much for the idea that Fox is some sort of Republican operation. Critics might not be able to see the difference between Beck and a more orthodox Republican such as Sean Hannity, but the people sure can. Not to say that Glenn is better than Sean--or better than the more populist and heterodox Bill O'Reilly--but the point is, they are all different.
Fox has much more diversity of opinion than CNN, to say nothing of MSNBC.
