Console Casualty And Other Weekend Notes

So my sis is visiting me and she's in the middle of playing GHIII and suddenly the Xbox starts emitting a terrible grinding noise. We shut it off, and then the CD drive door jammed. I got it unjammed by gently wiggling it -- now it closes properly. Problem is, now the machine doesn't know there's a disc in the drive or that it's closed. Beautiful.

Moreover, this is probably not the first OMG MY EXBOX CHOKED post you've ever read. People complaining about broken Xboxes isn't even newsworthy anymore. Does anyone else find that hugely alarming? I mean, we are supposed to consider this console a contender for the future?

Oh, yeah, and it's an Elite, which is supposed to be better in the hardware department than the standard model. Anyway, it's possible it just got too hot or something; I'll try it again later. Sucks I have two reviews due in the coming week. Fortunately, they're both multiplatform, and fortunately, I have a PS3.

Speaking of trading up for the superior of two very similar products (oh yeah, I am in a mood, boy) I'm about to finally cave in and get on the Rock Bandwagon too. Wonder which SKU I'll pick?

I also got an iPhone this weekend, to replace the phone that some douchebag spilled beer on at GDC. This is NOT a good thing, as I'm already obsessed enough with repeatedly checking email and staring at the internet, and now I can't escape it no matter where I go. But I just couldn't resist anymore.

In better news, I promised you guys I'd talk about game completion-phobia at further length, and this week's Aberrant Gamer delivers, I hope. Check it out. Finally, Jeff Gerstmann's new site is also very check-worthy. The latest post wonders who among us is still Achievements-obsessed. Also, Mr. Gerstmann's gamerscore is terrifyingly epic. Like, seriously, wow.
