As part of my adventures with Pleo, I interviewed John Sosoka, chief technology officer at Ugobe, who makes the somewhat-sentient and wholly adorable little scamps. He was really enthusiastic about the connection I drew between Pleo's behavior discovery mechanics and gaming, and likened Pleo to an NPC that exists in the real world. Sosoka's a real smart and interesting person, and it was awesome to get a peek at the philosophy behind developing a "life form" that hopes to go open-source.
When you think about these things in a distinctly gamey context, it really makes your head spin. Check it out.
